Turkey’s local officials launch new appointments and commemorate 15 July across cities

In July 2026 several Turkish municipalities announced key developments. Emre Oğuztürk began his term as Kaymakam of İslahiye, Gaziantep, after a presidential decree. The official Resmi Gazete published numerous presidential decisions, including new regulations, asset‑freeze orders and a deputy‑president’s delegation notice.

In İzmir, Mayor Cemil Tugay reaffirmed his commitment to address urban‑renewal and waste‑management issues in Karabağlar and highlighted the city’s fire‑service enhancements. In Eskişehir, council members debated the fee structure of the new Dr Nurten Lütfü Yüksel Alzheimer Centre, with Mayor Kazım Kurt defending the rates as aligned with audit recommendations. Odunpazarı Mayor Kazım Kurt also defended the removal of a 15 July banner, stating it complied with official procedures.

Multiple cities held commemorations for the 10th anniversary of the 15 July democracy and unity day. Marmaris hosted a remembrance dinner attended by local officials and families of martyrs. Diyarbakır organized a similar program in the Orduevi garden, while Istanbul’s Aile and Social Services Directorate arranged children‑led performances and prayers. The Ministry of Youth and Sports coordinated 56 sporting events in more than 30 provinces, featuring athletics, wrestling, cycling and other disciplines to honor the fallen.

These activities illustrate a wave of local governance actions and nationwide remembrance events occurring throughout Turkey this month.
