Emschergenossenschaft opens historic Pumpwerk Evinger Bach to public in Dortmund
The Emschergenossenschaft opened the historic Pumpwerk Evinger Bach in Dortmund on 12‑13 September as part of the nationwide Tag des offenen Denkmals 2026. The two‑day programme, themed “NetzWERKE: Denkmale & Infrastruktur”, offered free guided tours of the 1953 pump station, which prevents flooding in the region.
On 12 September the author Daniel Schreiber and curator Dr Agnes Sawer (EGLV) presented Schreiber’s new book “Liebe! Ein Aufruf”, followed by a silent‑reading party. Visitors could bring their own books and enjoy a get‑together with snacks and drinks. Additional tours were scheduled on 13 September every hour between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The event highlighted the role of physical and social networks in community cohesion.
The open‑monument day is coordinated by the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and aims to give the public direct access to cultural heritage sites across Germany.
