EMT Madrid conducts exams for over 1,400 bus driver candidates

A total of 1,431 candidates participated in examinations held at IFEMA Madrid to compete for new bus driver positions at the Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT). The selection process, initiated by the Madrid City Council in April, aims to strengthen the capital's surface public transport services.

The examination process consists of four stages: theoretical tests covering professional knowledge, equality, occupational risk prevention, and personal competencies; a practical driving test; and a final medical evaluation. Requirements for the role include a Class D driver's license with at least six months of validity, a valid Professional Competence Certificate (CAP), a minimum of ten points on the driver's license, and six months of experience in passenger transport.

The recruitment drive is part of a sustained effort to increase staff. Since late 2019, EMT Madrid has added 2,392 professionals, with hiring numbers increasing in recent years, including 478 new drivers in 2025.
