Emylee Thai captured in Vietnam following alleged Medicare fraud escape

Emylee Thai, a Houston-area laboratory owner, has reportedly been captured in Vietnam following allegations that she fled the United States while facing federal charges. Thai, the owner of ApolloMDx, LLC and Artemis DNA, was facing a prosecution that began in 2022 involving a massive Medicare fraud scheme.

Federal prosecutors allege that between December 2019 and May 2022, Thai’s businesses submitted approximately $142 million in Medicare claims for genetic testing, resulting in roughly $95 million in payments. The scheme allegedly involved medically unnecessary tests and kickbacks.

Thai had been granted pretrial release with several conditions, including the requirement to wear a GPS location-monitoring device. According to the FBI, she removed the monitor on December 8, 2022, and subsequently disappeared. A federal arrest warrant was issued the following day in the Southern District of Texas. While the FBI has confirmed her capture in Vietnam, it remains unconfirmed if she has been transferred to American custody or when she will appear in federal court.
