Catalonia launches new cultural, health, and sustainability initiatives

Various regional initiatives are being launched in Catalonia, focusing on cultural heritage, health, and food sustainability.

The Consell Comarcal de la Selva has introduced the second edition of ‘En Ruta amb els Cabrera’, a cultural program featuring over 50 activities. Running from September 25 to December 20, the initiative connects Catalan and Sicilian heritage across 28 municipalities, including Selva, Osona, and Maresme, through guided tours, exhibitions, and historical reenactments.

In Cambrils, the Universitat Rovira Virgili (URV) and the local City Council have established a new chair dedicated to the Mediterranean diet and health. The academic term for the URV's Cambrils campus begins on October 1 with a lecture by Jordi Salas-Salvadó, part of a broader autumn program covering art, archaeology, and nutrition.

Additionally, the Consell Comarcal de la Selva is studying a regional plan to prevent food waste. The proposal explores the feasibility of using vending machines or refrigerators to distribute surplus food from school cafeterias, residential centers, and day centers to the public, aiming to move toward a zero-waste model.
