Enapter begins AEM stack production in China

German hydrogen technology company Enapter has commenced production of its anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser stacks at a new manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China. The production is being carried out through a partnership with Runqing Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., a member of the Chinese cleantech Runshihua Group.

This move is part of Enapter’s transition toward an asset-light business model, aimed at reducing fixed costs and increasing manufacturing flexibility. The facility utilizes an automated production line specifically established for Enapter’s stacks, allowing for scalable production based on market demand. The first units, designed for megawatt-scale electrolysers, have already been assembled and are ready for delivery.

Enapter expects to reach its targeted production output within weeks. The company anticipates that the lower cost base resulting from this partner-led manufacturing model will positively impact its earnings starting in 2027.
