Calabria uses drones and volunteers for wildfire prevention

The Calabria region has utilized advanced drone technology and volunteer support to combat wildfires during the summer season. As part of the ‘Tolleranza Zero’ operation, Enav Group companies D-Flight and Aiviewgroup conducted nearly 5,000 monitoring flights between June 28 and August 28. These missions covered 361 municipalities, totaling 897 flight hours and over 104,000 kilometers of patrolling. In August alone, the drone surveillance identified 73 fires.

The digital system integrates drone data directly into the Calabria Regional Control Room, allowing for immediate information sharing with the Civil Protection and Carabinieri Forestali.

Complementing these technological efforts, the Volontari dell’Adda provided manual support in Isola di Capo Rizzuto. These volunteers operated in shifts to conduct patrols in high-risk areas and respond to emergency requests from the national emergency support system (Sne) through September 10.
