EnBW calls for review of German wind energy expansion targets

EnBW CEO Georg Stamatelopoulos has called on the German government to reconsider its wind energy expansion targets for the North and Baltic Seas, citing the need to maintain affordability. He described a lower expansion target as a sensible correction rather than a slowdown.

In environmental research, scientists at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon have simulated the long-term effects of offshore wind and tidal wakes. Their study, published in the journal Nature, suggests that the planned tenfold increase in offshore wind capacity in the North Sea by 2050 could significantly alter large-scale hydrodynamic current patterns.

Separately, an incident occurred in Aalen-Waldhausen, Baden-Württemberg, where a wind turbine rotor blade detached from a height of approximately 100 meters. The operator, Statkraft, suspended operations at the site to allow experts to investigate the cause; no injuries were reported.
