Encamp announces landfill expansion as Palma pursues quarry expropriation

The municipality of Encamp has initiated the bidding process for an expansion of the Maià landfill, representing an estimated investment of 1.8 million euros. The project aims to increase the site's capacity to receive soil and stones from construction activities, preparing the terrain to accommodate up to 375,000 cubic meters. Following the closure of the Beixalís site, the Maià landfill has become the primary disposal site for the country.

In Spain, the Palma City Council is moving forward with the potential expropriation of the Sa Garrigueta Rassa and Can Rosselló quarries located in Establiments. The government board has approved the contracting of valuation services to determine the objective value of these properties. These mining sites have been inactive for over twenty years. The city intends to incorporate these lands into its municipal heritage to create new public natural spaces and contribute to the development of the future Palma Metropolitan Forest, a green ring designed to connect the city with the Serra de Tramuntana.
