Encamp to clean Parc de l'Ossa pond next week

The Encamp local government has scheduled maintenance for next week to clean the pond at Parc de l'Ossa. The operation will involve vacuuming accumulated lentil plants from the surface, cleaning the area, and refilling the pond.

Mayor Laura Mas clarified that the visible surface elements are lentil plants rather than algae, defending the effectiveness of the ultrasonic treatment used to prevent algae proliferation. She noted that 1,200 kilograms of algae were removed from the pond's interior during August. Mas emphasized the goal is to maintain the pond as a natural feature, asserting that the water entering and exiting the site remains clean.

The issue was raised during a council session by minority councillor Marta Pujol, who questioned the efficacy of the ultrasonic system and expressed concerns regarding potential additional costs. Pujol suggested alternative uses for the space, such as a recreation or vegetation zone, should the pond fail to function with natural river water.
