ENDCC celebrates 49 years of professional dance education in Mexico

The National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance (ENDCC), part of Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), is celebrating 49 years of professional artistic education.

Founded in 1977 as the Professional School of Classical Dance, the institution became a National School a year later. In 1994, the classical and contemporary dance schools merged to form the current ENDCC, which is based at the National Center for the Arts.

Claudia Curiel de Icaza, Mexico’s Secretary of Culture, emphasized the importance of sustaining public artistic education to allow new generations to turn their vocations into professional careers. María del Carmen Bojórquez, director of the ENDCC, noted that the school’s educational approach treats dance not only as a high-performance physical discipline but also as a field of knowledge, creation, and research.
