Endesa performs maintenance on Seròs canal in Lleida
Endesa has begun the periodic draining of the Seròs canal in the Segrià region to conduct essential maintenance and infrastructure improvements. The project, which occurs every two years, is expected to last approximately six to seven weeks, with operations scheduled to resume by mid-November.
During this period, the Seròs hydroelectric plant will undergo a technical shutdown as it relies on the water circulating through the canal. The maintenance work focuses on improving the concrete lining of the lateral walls and the canal floor, as well as inspecting and repairing the loading chamber and other infrastructure components.
A critical part of the process involves the rescue and classification of fish fauna within the ecosystem. Specialized teams, including the Association of Fishermen and the Rural Agents Corps, are using electric fishing techniques to temporarily immobilize fish for capture and relocation. Native species are being transferred to oxygenated tanks before being returned to the river, while invasive non-native species, such as catfish (silurs), are being removed to protect the local environment.
