Endesa power outages in Baix Camp linked to wildfire prevention
Residents and local mayors in the Baix Camp region are reporting frequent power outages during the summer months. Towns such as L’Aleixar, Maspujols, and Vilaplana have experienced interruptions that, while often lasting less than thirty minutes, have caused local concern and material damage due to a lack of timely information.
These outages are linked to ‘Pla Alfa’, a safety agreement between the distributor Endesa and the Department of the Interior designed to prevent wildfires. Under this protocol, when high fire risk levels are reached, Endesa temporarily disables automatic reconnection systems on electrical lines passing through high-risk zones.
Instead of an immediate automatic restart, technical teams must perform manual visual inspections to ensure a fault was not caused by a fire before restoring power. In the Lleida demarcation, the activation of this plan has increased significantly, with Endesa performing nearly 12,500 operations related to the protocol through July, representing a high volume of preventive measures due to seasonal fire risks.
