Endocrinology specialist says chronic fatigue can signal hormonal imbalance

Endocrinology expert Dr. Melek Aksu Geyik explains that fatigue that persists despite adequate rest may be a sign of hormonal disturbances. She highlights imbalances in thyroid hormones, insulin, cortisol and sex hormones as common underlying causes.

Geyik advises that patients with long‑lasting exhaustion should undergo hormonal evaluation, noting that hypothyroidism can slow metabolism and cause cold intolerance, weight gain and cognitive fog, while hyperthyroidism may produce palpitations and sleep loss. Insulin resistance or diabetes can lead to post‑meal drowsiness, cravings and reduced focus. Low cortisol levels are linked to morning fatigue and low blood pressure, and fluctuations in estrogen, progesterone or testosterone can trigger chronic tiredness during menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome or in men.

She stresses that hormonal imbalances can severely affect quality of life and that proper diagnosis is essential for effective treatment.
