Brazil striker Raphinha nears World Cup return as squad selection debated

Brazilian forward Raphinha, who suffered a right‑thigh muscle injury in the 3‑0 win over Haiti on 19 June, took part in a 15‑minute training session at Columbia Park, the New York Red Bulls facility in New Jersey. Coach Carlo Ancelotti announced his return to training, and teammates welcomed him with the traditional “corredor polonês” applause.

While his fitness is improving, the coaching staff indicated Raphinha is unlikely to start the round‑of‑16 match against Norway on 5 July, and may only be available if Brazil reaches the quarter‑finals. Mid‑fielder Lucas Paquetá remains sidelined with a left‑thigh injury, prompting a selection dilemma. Options being considered include Danilo Santos, Gabriel Martinelli (who was recently tested in training), Endrick and even Neymar.

Endrick confirmed he is ready to contribute if called upon, while young striker Rayan has also been training without restriction. The final lineup will be decided in the final training sessions before the match at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
