Endurance athlete attempts Everesting challenge in Crete
An endurance athlete is undertaking an ‘Everesting’ challenge in the White Mountains of Crete to support the Horizon Voluntary Support Association. The event is scheduled to begin at sunrise on Friday, September 4, and is expected to conclude on Sunday, September 6.
The challenge involves completing 30 ascents of the Pachnes peak (2,453 meters). By repeating the final section of the route from Rousies to the summit, the athlete aims to accumulate approximately 9,060 meters of positive elevation gain, surpassing the height of Mount Everest.
The initiative was inspired by the athlete’s personal experience following a close friend’s breast cancer diagnosis. The goal is to raise awareness and provide support for the Horizon Association, which assisted the friend and her family during her treatment.
