EnEarth contracts Vallourec for Prinos CO2 storage project

EnEarth, a subsidiary of Energean, has signed a contract with the French company Vallourec to supply approximately 3,000 tons of specialized piping and equipment for the Prinos CO2 project in the Gulf of Kavala, Greece.

The project aims to repurpose the depleted Prinos oil field into a permanent carbon dioxide storage facility. Vallourec will provide seamless decarbonized steel pipes and corrosion-resistant alloys designed to ensure the long-term integrity and safety of the underground injection wells. The facility is expected to have an annual injection capacity of up to 2.8 million tons of CO2, with a total potential storage capacity of 51.5 million tons.

Recognized as an EU Project of Common Interest (PCI), the initiative receives support from European and national resources. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has noted that this will be the first commercial-scale carbon storage infrastructure in the Southeast Mediterranean to provide access to third parties. While this technical procurement marks a significant step forward, EnEarth expects to reach a Final Investment Decision (FID) within the first half of 2027.
