Crime hampers Honduran energy services as medical aid reaches Chocó

In Honduras, the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE) is facing significant operational challenges due to organized crime. Criminal structures have created “difficult management zones” where security conditions prevent utility crews from entering to perform billing, maintenance, and service supervision. This situation has led to massive financial losses for the state company through energy theft and high delinquency rates. Additionally, there are reports of illegal parallel collections being demanded by criminal groups from residents.

In Colombia, following an earthquake on August 10, business leaders and citizens from Santander have organized a donation of medical equipment and surgical supplies to Quibdó, Chocó. The aid, which includes sutures and surgical instruments, was sourced from the closed Omimed medical facility in Bucaramanga. Specialized medical personnel from Bucaramanga are also traveling to the region to support local hospital staff in treating patients injured by falling debris.
