ENEE reports over 30 billion in lawsuits from energy contract renegotiations

Guillermo Peña Panting, General Manager of the Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE), stated that the forced renegotiation of energy contracts during the previous administration has resulted in lawsuits exceeding 30,000 million. While the specific currency was not specified, the official noted that these legal disputes are occurring in both national and international arbitration courts, creating a significant burden for the Honduran energy system.

The current administration aims to resolve these controversies through voluntary, coordinated agreements with power generation companies. This strategy is intended to restore investor confidence and prevent legal processes from hindering future investments in the electrical sector.

In related management updates, the Secretary of Energy, Eduardo Oviedo, confirmed the formation of a Steering Committee to oversee the implementation of the Energy Justice Law. Authorities also reported the installation of 50,000 public lights across the country, with a goal of reaching 200,000 within twelve months to improve public safety.
