Enel Colombia doubles energy capacity for Bogotá and Soacha

Enel Colombia has doubled the operational capacity of the Nueva Esperanza Substation in Soacha, increasing its transformation infrastructure from 450 MVA to 900 MVA. The project involved an investment of approximately 75 billion pesos and is a component of the Bogotá-Región 2030 Expansion Plan.

The upgrade includes the installation of a second 500/115 kV autotransformation bank featuring three advanced transformers, each weighing roughly 120 tons. This infrastructure is connected directly to the National Transmission System to support energy distribution in high voltage.

The expansion is intended to strengthen grid reliability and secure energy supplies for more than four million residents in Bogotá and Cundinamarca, addressing the growing residential and industrial demand in the country’s east-central region.
