Scheduled electricity outages hit cities in Colombia, Chile and Nicaragua
Utility companies in three Latin American countries announced planned power interruptions for July 8‑9 to carry out maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
In Colombia's Atlántico region, Air‑e Intervenida will work on the electric network on Thursday, July 9, between 08:00‑16:00, cutting service in municipalities such as Juan de Acosta, Tubará, Piojó, Puerto Colombia, Baranoa and parts of Barranquilla. The outage will affect urban and rural sectors, including tourist areas like Puerto Velero and Playa Mendoza.
Chile's capital Santiago will see scheduled cuts on Thursday, July 9, in six communes – Santiago, Maipú, Macul, La Florida, Huechuraba and Recoleta – with power possibly suspended for up to eight hours as Enel conducts preventive maintenance, modernises infrastructure and connects new customers.
Enel Colombia also announced outages for Wednesday, July 8, across several Bogotá neighbourhoods (Ciudad Bolívar, Kennedy, Puente Aranda and Suba). Cuts will run from early morning until mid‑afternoon, and users are advised to disconnect appliances and limit refrigerator openings.
In Managua, Nicaragua, the municipal government warned of a temporary blackout on Wednesday, July 8, from 14:00‑17:00 in the Rotonda Rubén Darío area while the Pista Héroes de la Insurrección road works are carried out. Residents are asked to charge devices and protect perishable food.
All providers recommended preparing in advance, securing electrical equipment and following official notices to minimise inconvenience.
