Enel interconnection project faces rejection in Chile

Chilean Energy Minister Ximena Rincón stated that Enel will likely need to modify its proposed international interconnection project between Los Cóndores (Chile) and Río Diamante (Argentina) following its rejection by the Environmental Evaluation Commission (Coeva) of the Maule Region.

Rincón emphasized the importance of strengthening energy interconnections to enhance national energy security and prevent outages, citing the benefits of interconnected grids in other nations. However, she noted that the current proposal faces significant hurdles due to environmental and aesthetic concerns in a key tourist area, rather than solely due to external advocacy regarding local species protection.
