Enel Announces First Investment to Upgrade Sicily’s Power Grid in Siracusa

Enel has announced its first investment aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution network in Sicily, with a focus on the province of Siracusa. The announcement follows a parliamentary inquiry by the Five Star Movement (M5S) that highlighted recent blackouts caused by heat waves and rising consumption, which also disrupted water‑service operations.

M5S deputy Filippo Scerra and local party referent Giuseppe Mirabella welcomed the funding as a positive signal but stressed that it must be the first step of a broader, rapid programme of upgrades. They pledged to monitor the implementation, demand concrete timelines and, if necessary, bring the issue back before Parliament to ensure a modern, reliable grid capable of meeting climatic challenges.
