Enel Rio announces plan to combat Super El Niño impacts

Enel Rio has announced an operational plan to mitigate the impacts of the ‘Super El Niño’ phenomenon during the 2026/2027 summer season. The plan covers 66 municipalities within the company’s concession area in Rio de Janeiro.

To enhance service agility and resilience against extreme weather, the utility is hiring over 2,000 new field professionals and establishing 16 to 19 new operational bases. The company is also tripling its vehicle fleet and implementing advanced technological upgrades, including the installation of 624 pieces of digital and automated equipment.

Key technological measures include 450 ‘self-healing’ autonomous circuits designed to automatically identify and restore service within 90 seconds, benefiting approximately 1.6 million customers. Additionally, the company has modernized satellite communication for 248 pieces of equipment and introduced remote generator activation for areas such as Paraty and Ilha Grande to ensure stability in geographically challenging locations.
