Energie Cottbus fans display homophobic banners against FC St. Pauli
During a 1-1 draw between Energie Cottbus and FC St. Pauli on Sunday, homophobic banners were displayed by home supporters in the Cottbus stands. Two banners were shown during the first half targeting the Hamburg-based club.
The first banner read, “Your rainbow utopia ends in pedophilia — no acceptance for your sick world!” A second banner followed, criticizing the club for being in a “bubble” and aligned with the system.
FC St. Pauli is widely recognized as Germany’s most queer-friendly professional football club, known for its long-standing activism and rainbow-themed installations at its stadium. Reports suggest the hostile messages may be linked to recent controversies involving the Ultrà Sankt Pauli (USP) group, which recently disclosed instances of sexual and physical violence within its ranks.
