Energiebedrijven Suriname continues labor negotiations amid union conflict
Collective labor agreement (CAO) negotiations are continuing at Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS), though significant tension remains due to an ongoing conflict between management and the labor union. A site ban against union chairman Marciano Hellings remains in effect, a decision that EBS Director Leo Brunswijk maintains will not change despite the recent reelection of the current union leadership.
While agreement has been reached regarding secondary employment benefits, negotiations regarding primary conditions are still underway. Management is using official inflation figures as the baseline for these discussions. However, the situation is complicated by the rising cost of living and the broader dispute over the boundaries of authority and the ability of the union to represent employees independently within the state-owned enterprise.
