Energinet CEO Thomas Egebo to step down

Thomas Egebo is stepping down as CEO of the state-owned Danish energy company Energinet after eight years in the role. The decision was made by the board, led by newly appointed chairman Tommy Ahlers, citing a ‘need for a different profile’ to lead the organization.

The leadership change follows criticism regarding the slow expansion of the electrical grid. Tommy Ahlers stated that a new CEO is required to transform Energinet into a more proactive and open company capable of delivering secure supply, expanding infrastructure more rapidly, and collaborating more closely with customers and distribution companies.

Søren Dupont Kristensen, the current Deputy CEO and COO, will serve as the acting CEO while the board searches for a permanent successor with the assistance of an external recruitment firm. Energinet is responsible for managing Denmark’s central electricity grid and critical infrastructure, including projects such as the hydrogen pipeline to Germany.
