Energinet to resume electricity grid connections in Denmark

Energinet is preparing to end an eight-month moratorium on new electricity grid connections in Denmark. Since March, a temporary halt was implemented to manage a massive backlog of applications, which had grown to nearly 60 GW—approximately eight times the current daily consumption of the country.

With the implementation of a new emergency plan for the power grid, new regulations regarding connection priorities have come into effect. For the district heating sector, the new rules offer mixed results. While heat pump installations under 3 MW will be placed in priority category 1, ensuring high priority for electrification, larger electric boilers may be relegated to category 3. Dansk Fjernvarme has expressed concern that this categorization for electric boilers could create obstacles for providing flexibility to the electricity system.
