Energy Commission warns against unqualified electricians in Ghana
The Energy Commission in Ghana has issued a warning to consumers and businesses regarding the risks of hiring unqualified electricians. The Commission noted that improper electrical installations could endanger lives and property, particularly as the country sees increased adoption of solar energy and electric vehicle (EV) charging systems.
To address the need for skilled labor, the Commission recently inducted approximately 180 newly certified electrical professionals during its 25th Electrical Wiring Certification and Awards Ceremony in Takoradi. This new cohort includes domestic, commercial, and industrial electricians, as well as inspectors trained to verify installations before they are approved for energisation. These professionals are specifically equipped to handle emerging technologies, including rooftop solar systems, solar plants, and EV charging stations.
