Energy companies announce major hydrocarbon projects in Colombia and Peru

Energy companies in Colombia and Peru are advancing significant hydrocarbon projects. In Colombia, Drummond Energy plans to begin hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations in 2027 within the Cesar-Rancheria basin, located between the La Guajira and Cesar departments. This shift involves the company moving away from a regasification project in Ciénaga to focus on non-conventional reservoirs, specifically targeting the La Luna formation. The development involves several contracts with the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), including the CR4 contract signed in late 2023. Experts suggest that initial stages will require between 10 and 12 wells to determine commercial viability and technical parameters.

In Peru, Pluspetrol has announced a US$ 100 million investment to expand activities in the Camisea region. The company submitted a technical report to Senace to drill two natural gas producer wells and one injector well at the San Martin 1 location within Lot 88 in Cusco. This initiative aims to maintain natural gas production to meet national demand, addressing concerns that current reserves may become insufficient within the next 12 years.
