Energy costs and mobility trends show shifting fuel and charging prices
Recent data and policy shifts indicate a changing landscape for mobility costs. In Italy, analysis from Arera official Emanuele Regalini shows a downward trend in fast (DC) and ultrafast (HPC) electric vehicle charging costs between January 2025 and August 2026. This decline occurs despite a rising National Single Price (PUN) for electricity, driven by increased competition and aggressive tariff policies. By August 2026, ultrafast charging is projected to be more cost-effective than gasoline or diesel, while fast charging is expected to reach price parity with traditional fuels.
In the United States, Donald Trump has proposed making red diesel—a fuel previously reserved for agricultural use in tractors—available for automobiles. Meanwhile, in France, the government is looking to revise solar energy buy-back tariffs that were established between 2006 and 2010, impacting previous investment expectations for photovoltaic installations.
