Energy costs and supply outlook for Balkan heating season

Heating costs and energy supply stability are key concerns for the upcoming season in the Balkans. In Serbia, the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia (AERS) estimates heating requirements for an average 60 m² apartment at approximately 9,000 kWh over 180 days. According to AERS, natural gas remains a stable option at roughly 59,500 dinars per season, whereas pellet costs have surged by approximately 50 percent compared to the previous season. Other options like wood, coal, and electric heating show varying price points, with direct electric heating being the most expensive at over 250,000 dinars.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Energoinvest has confirmed that gas supplies are secured for the season and no immediate shortages are expected. However, consumer prices remain uncertain as they are tied to global oil market fluctuations and supplier rates. Energoinvest noted that Gazprom Export increased the procurement price of natural gas by 14.42 percent for the third quarter. The company stated it is preparing measures to mitigate the impact of potential price hikes on end-users during peak consumption months.
