Spain faces thermal comfort challenges as temperatures drop

A recent study by the IV Observatory on Housing and Sustainability reveals that 46.4% of Spanish households struggle to maintain consistent thermal comfort. The report highlights significant regional disparities, with Murcia, Extremadura, and Andalusia recording the highest percentages of residents unable to maintain adequate indoor temperatures. Economic factors also play a role, as lower-income households face greater obstacles in achieving energy efficiency.

Experts suggest several practical measures to improve home heating efficiency and reduce energy costs. To prevent heat loss, it is recommended to avoid placing large furniture or long curtains directly in front of radiators, as this obstructs air circulation. Additionally, utilizing sunlight by opening blinds during the day and closing them at night can help retain warmth. The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) recommends maintaining a stable thermostat temperature between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius rather than setting it to extreme levels to heat rooms faster.

Residential energy rehabilitation, including improved window insulation and modernized climate control systems, is highlighted as a key long-term solution for enhancing both comfort and energy savings.
