Energy efficiency projects drive savings in Czech municipalities and universities

Various Czech institutions are reporting significant financial and energy savings through renewable energy investments and modernization projects.

The municipality of Vlčnov has generated up to 800,000 CZK annually from solar energy just three years after installing photovoltaic plants on seven municipal buildings. The project, which cost the municipality a net 2.3 million CZK after subsidies, has already reached its return on investment. The energy produced is used to power municipal buildings or sold, with plans to further reduce costs through public lighting upgrades.

Simultaneously, the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Sciences at the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) is realizing savings through an Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) project with ENESA, part of the ČEZ ESCO holding. By modernizing buildings in Prague and Děčín—including heating, windows, and lighting—the faculty expects to save nearly 4 million CZK annually. This reduction in energy consumption is estimated at 1,200 MWh per year, or over 26% of the buildings' total usage. Combined with previous projects, ČVUT saves over 25 million CZK annually.
