Energy efficiency standards and heat pump subsidies in Germany

Energy efficiency in residential construction remains a key focus, particularly regarding thermal insulation and heating systems. Passive house windows are characterized by a total U-value (Uw) of 0.8 W/m²·K or lower, which helps minimize cold radiation and save energy through advanced triple glazing and frame construction.

Regarding heating, although subsidies for heat pumps in Germany have been adjusted, they remain significant. While the efficiency bonus for natural refrigerants has been cut and the climate speed bonus reduced from 20% to 16%, total subsidies can still reach 70% to 80% for certain households. The maximum investment cost considered for the climate speed bonus is now capped at 28,000 euros, down from 30,000 euros.
