Energy efficiency strategies for home appliances in Japan and Taiwan

Consumers in Japan and Taiwan are looking for ways to manage rising electricity costs through appliance optimization and strategic upgrades.

In Japan, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy suggests that adjusting refrigerator settings from ‘strong’ to ‘medium’ can save approximately 1,910 yen annually. Other energy-saving tips include avoiding overfilling refrigerators, using brightness sensors on televisions, and utilizing timers on heated toilet seats to reduce unnecessary power consumption.

In Taiwan, guidance for purchasing new appliances emphasizes looking beyond energy efficiency ratings. While many consumers prioritize energy labels, experts suggest comparing actual annual power consumption (kWh/year) because different capacities and designs result in varying costs even within the same efficiency grade. LG has shared formulas for estimating required capacity based on household size and noted that AI-driven compressors can improve efficiency by predicting usage patterns. Additionally, consumers in Taiwan can potentially receive up to 5,000 TWD in combined subsidies and tax refunds when replacing old appliances with energy-efficient models before current programs expire.
