Energy efficiency tips for using air conditioning during heatwaves

To optimize electricity consumption during heatwaves, users of modern inverter air conditioners should avoid frequently turning the units on and off. Because inverter compressors slow down to maintain a set temperature rather than running at full power constantly, frequent cycling can actually increase energy use. When a unit is turned off, not only does the air warm up, but walls, floors, and furniture also absorb heat, requiring the device to work harder to cool the entire space upon restarting.

For short absences, it is more efficient to leave the air conditioner running at a higher temperature, such as 27 or 28 degrees Celsius, rather than turning it off completely. For longer periods, such as a full workday, turning the unit off or using a timer to start cooling just before returning home is recommended. Additionally, setting the device to its lowest possible temperature, such as 16 or 18 degrees, does not result in faster cooling; it simply causes the unit to operate under higher load for a longer duration.
