Energy-efficient home design strategies for sustainability

Key architectural strategies include optimizing window placement for natural light and ventilation, orienting homes to manage solar gain, and using thermal mass materials like stone or concrete to regulate indoor temperatures.

Improving efficiency often begins with an energy assessment to identify where waste occurs. Practical steps include sealing air leaks around doors and windows, upgrading insulation with advanced materials, and using energy-efficient appliances. Addressing the largest sources of waste through gradual improvements can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption.
