Energy experts suggest optimal times for washing machines to reduce costs

Energy experts suggest that timing household chores, such as using a washing machine, can significantly impact electricity costs, particularly for households with differentiated tariffs.

According to Becky Williamson of Memphis Light, Gas & Water, consumers should avoid peak usage periods. In summer, these peaks typically occur in the late afternoon and early evening due to increased air conditioning use. In colder seasons, peaks may shift to the morning when heating systems and boilers are activated simultaneously.

To reduce costs, utility providers often encourage using appliances during off-peak hours, such as late at night or on weekends, when commercial and industrial demand is lower.
