Energy grid flexibility and smart infrastructure drive modern transitions

Experts at the Energy Days conference discussed the necessity of grid flexibility to accommodate the rise of renewable energy sources. As production shifts from following demand to being driven by weather-dependent renewables, maintaining stability becomes a critical challenge. Industry representatives noted that heavy industries, such as chemical production, face significant losses if processes must be halted to balance the grid.

Proposed solutions include energy storage systems to replace conventional blocks, automated intraday market trading, and Demand Side Response (DSR) systems to reduce consumption during peak periods. There is also a focus on the potential of local energy communities, such as clusters and cooperatives, to act as flexible market participants. In Poland, where renewable energy could reach 80% of the energy mix, experts emphasized the need for precise energy contracting and the activation of energy consumers.

Parallel to energy transitions, urban infrastructure is undergoing digital transformation to optimize resource consumption. Modern urban planning is integrating transmission, energy, and transport systems through IoT sensors and data analysis. This digital evolution aims to improve real-time monitoring of technical assets, enhance water retention in public spaces, and adapt metropolitan areas like Warsaw to changing climate conditions and increasing urbanization.
