Energy infrastructure developments in Catalonia face progress and opposition

Energy infrastructure projects in Catalonia are facing both regulatory progress and environmental opposition. In Reus, the Territorial Urbanism Commission of Camp de Tarragona has issued a favorable report for a battery storage project led by Isabel Development. The project involves seven storage plants, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW, designed to manage renewable energy production, increase grid flexibility, and reduce blackout risks. The Reus City Council must now approve the licenses, contingent on the developer providing required documentation and guarantees for land restoration.

In contrast, the Federation of Ecologistes en Acció de Catalunya has formally opposed a proposed 110 kV electrical line project in Manresa. The organization has filed allegations requesting a review of the project's necessity and its potential impact on agricultural lands, the Cardener river corridor, protected fauna, and cultural heritage. They are calling for a halt to definitive authorization until comprehensive environmental and territorial documentation is completed to assess the cumulative impact of various planned infrastructures in the region.
