Energy infrastructure expansions announced in Cameroon and Mauritius

The Société camerounaise des dépôts pétroliers (Scdp) has increased its liquefied petroleum gas storage capacity at the Bonabéri depot. A new spherical reservoir, costing approximately 7 billion FCFA and implemented by Parlym Cameroun, has raised the site's capacity from 2,500 to 3,500 metric tons, a 40% increase. This expansion aims to improve energy sovereignty and reduce market shortages in Cameroon and neighboring hinterland countries.

Additionally, Scdp has introduced a new 4 km pipeline connecting the Port of Douala to the Bessengue depot. This infrastructure is designed to increase liquid product reception from 210,000 m³ (14 ships per month) to approximately 345,000 m³ (23 ships per month), while reducing vessel turnaround times and demurrage costs by 50%.

In Mauritius, the Central Electricity Board (CEB) has relaunched a project to construct two 4,000 m³ heavy fuel oil storage tanks at the Saint-Louis power plant. The project aims to increase total storage capacity by 8,000 m³. This follows an unsuccessful tender process four years ago. The new tender covers design, construction, and commissioning, though the updated project cost has not been publicly disclosed following recent financial losses reported by the CEB.
