Energy leaders discuss investment and renewables at AmCham Forum

At the AmCham Energy Forum 2026 in Buenos Aires, regional leaders and industry executives discussed the future of Argentina's energy sector, focusing on investment, renewables, and resource management.

Mendoza Governor Alfredo Cornejo highlighted the province's ability to drive economic development through its control over subsoil resources, including oil, gas, and mining. He noted that Mendoza is advancing its energy matrix by transitioning from conventional to unconventional petroleum. The province is preparing to drill five new wells, with three managed by YPF and two by the Quintana-TSB UTE, following positive studies in the northern part of the Vaca Muerta formation.

Jorge Brito, president of Genneia, expressed optimism regarding renewable energy, noting that both domestic and foreign investors view the sector as the future. Brito emphasized that while corporate bonds and project finance are vital for infrastructure expansion, long-term investment requires legal certainty and predictability. Genneia currently holds 23% of Argentina's installed renewable power, with a capacity exceeding 1,745 MW from wind and solar parks.
