Energy leaders urge transition amid infrastructure and regulatory hurdles

Business leaders and energy executives are facing significant hurdles in the transition to a low-carbon economy. A joint report from Lloyd’s and Chatham House emphasizes that securing green energy supplies is no longer a luxury but an essential component of business stability and risk management. The report suggests that reliance on fossil fuels carries increasing risks of supply disruption and environmental consequences.

In the United States, clean energy developers and financiers report a disconnect between high demand and the ability to execute projects. Despite available capital, industry participants cite difficulties with permitting reform, lengthy grid connection queues, and hardware delivery delays. Concerns were also raised regarding regulatory shifts, such as the withdrawal of offshore wind leases and the impact of federal policies on onshore wind projects. Additionally, growing public opposition to data centers and the energy demands of AI proliferation are creating further complications for infrastructure development.
