Energy management systems advance through standardization and CEMS
Energy management technology is advancing through new standardization efforts and commercial applications. Metrify, a metering point operator, has collaborated with several Home Energy Management System (HEMS) providers to develop a standardized process for connecting controllable energy assets. Using the EEBUS interface, the initiative aims to link photovoltaic systems and battery storage with metering infrastructure.
Partners in this standardization effort include Consolinno, Enpal, GridX, Kiwigrid, Solar Manager, Viessmann, and Clever-PV. The goal is to ensure interoperability between different HEMS and smart meters, allowing for grid-friendly control via the operator while maintaining market control via the user's HEMS. The systems currently support over one thousand model series of heat pumps, wallboxes, and inverters.
In the commercial sector, Commercial Energy Management Systems (CEMS) are being utilized by electrical trades to help businesses optimize energy flows. By implementing CEMS alongside photovoltaic installations, companies can improve cost predictability and increase self-consumption of generated energy.
