Energy management updates in Spain and France
In Spain, the grid operator Red Eléctrica requested industrial companies to reduce electricity consumption on September 28 after wind power production fell below expectations. Approximately 943 megawatts were removed from the grid for nearly two hours to maintain a safety margin. This marks the seventh activation of the active demand response service (SRAD) since July 15. Under this voluntary agreement, participating companies receive compensation for reducing activity upon receiving a notice of at least twelve and a half minutes.
In France, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) announced changes to EDF’s Tempo electricity option. Starting November 1, the 22 ‘red days’—periods when electricity prices increase significantly during peak hours—will no longer include December 24 and December 31. Additionally, the selection method used by the grid operator RTE will change to prevent an accumulation of red days at the end of winter. Some red days will now be announced two days in advance rather than one, allowing the approximately 900,000 households subscribed to the option to better manage their consumption.
