Energy markets and grid congestion impact Netherlands

Energy markets in the Netherlands are seeing fluctuations in gas and electricity prices. The TTF front-month contract for October 2026 is trading around 68 to 70 euros per megawatt hour. Analysts from Goldman Sachs and Morningstar have suggested that gas prices could reach between 90 and 120 euros per megawatt hour if a cold winter occurs alongside ongoing LNG supply issues.

Electricity day prices remain high, with the EPEX day price reaching 146 euros per megawatt hour. Meanwhile, fuel prices in the Netherlands have seen a decline, with diesel and Euro95 prices dropping slightly.

In Noord-Holland, the province is facing challenges regarding grid congestion and nitrogen limits, which are impacting housing, mobility, and economic development. The province has commissioned Berenschot to investigate how these constraints affect regional planning, including the sustainability efforts of the greenhouse horticulture sector.
