Energy modernization strategies for historic and residential buildings

Efforts to improve energy efficiency in residential and historic buildings require coordinated approaches to avoid structural damage. For historic properties, experts suggest low-temperature heating systems—such as heat pumps, geothermal energy, or biomass—to reduce energy consumption without compromising architectural integrity. Solar energy, including photovoltaic systems, can be integrated if installed in unobtrusive locations or on outbuildings.

In the residential sector, Sparkasse Paderborn-Detmold-Höxter has introduced an infrared thermography service in collaboration with delta GmbH Leipzig. This service allows homeowners and tenants to identify thermal weaknesses, such as heat loss or cold bridges, through infrared imaging. The package, priced at 99 euros per object, provides at least six infrared images and an explanatory brochure to assist in planning energy-saving measures. The service is scheduled to be available in the region during the first quarter of 2027.
