Energy production shifts in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia

Energy production developments are occurring in the Balkans, featuring both coal and renewable energy advancements. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the RiTE Gacko thermal power plant has produced over 900 gigawatt-hours of electricity since the start of the year. This figure is approximately 40 percent above the initial plan, making it the largest producer within the Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske system for the first nine months of the year. Despite challenges regarding coal quality, the facility reported positive financial results for the first half of the year.

In Slovenia, Holding Slovenske elektrarne has opened the Prapretno 2 and 3 solar power plant in the Zasavje region. The complex, which includes a battery storage system, features over 17,946 solar modules with a total capacity of 9.8 MW and an expected annual production of over 10 GWh. The project, valued at approximately eight million euros, was co-financed by the EU Just Transition Fund. It represents a shift for the former coal-mining region, converting degraded land into a site for renewable energy production.
