Energy Regulatory Office warns of risks using AI for communications

The Energy Regulatory Office (ERÚ) has issued a warning regarding consumers using artificial intelligence to draft communications, such as complaints or requests for advice. While AI can assist with text formulation or navigating complex issues, the authority notes that relying solely on AI-generated content can paradoxically delay the processing of requests.

According to ERÚ Board member Markéta Zemanová, AI-generated submissions often feature lengthy, potentially inaccurate legal analyses while lacking the most critical element: a concise and factual description of the actual events. This lack of detail frequently forces the office to request additional information from the consumer. Zemanová advises that submissions should be brief, clear, and written in the consumer's own words, accompanied by all relevant documentation.

Furthermore, the office highlighted significant privacy risks. Consumers often upload complete contracts, bills, or other sensitive documents into language models, potentially exposing personal data such as customer account numbers, banking details, or signature patterns without realizing how that data is handled. The ERÚ suggests using AI only for consultation or refining phrasing, emphasizing that all final texts must be manually verified for accuracy and completeness.
